This presentation aims to provide counsellors and psychotherapists with a comprehensive understanding of disordered eating, including its various types, causes, symptoms, and treatment approaches.

By examining the psychological, emotional, and cultural factors that contribute to the development of these disorders, attendees will gain valuable insights into the complex nature of disordered eating and enhance their ability to support individuals struggling with these conditions.

 

This presentation is designed to offer a deep dive into the world of eating disorders, shedding light on the challenges faced by individuals who experience disordered eating patterns. Attendees will be guided through an exploration of the different types of eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. The presentation will delve into the underlying causes and risk factors associated with each disorder, including psychological, social, and cultural influences.

 

Participants will learn about the common signs and symptoms that may indicate the presence of an eating disorder. Special attention will be given to identifying the physical, behavioural, and emotional indicators, allowing therapists to recognise and intervene effectively. The presentation will also highlight the importance of early detection and intervention to prevent severe health consequences and increase the chances of successful recovery.

 

Attendees will be introduced to evidence-based treatment approaches for disordered eating. Emphasis will be placed on fostering a collaborative and multidisciplinary treatment approach, involving healthcare professionals, therapists, and the client’s support system.

Eligibility

This is a CPD workshop specifically designed for Counsellors & Psychotherapist or other helping professionals with therapeutic experience and students currently in professional training. BSc Counselling & Psychotherapy students in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 of their studies are all invited to apply for this CPD workshop.

Students require sufficient IT skills to complete the course.

Students can expect to be provided with advice and support concerning any learning difficulties that they may encounter. Any diagnosed learning difficulty, e.g. dyslexia, must be noted on the application.
