Self Care with Somatic Movement
We often live “from the neck up,” disconnecting from the physical wisdom of our bodies until stress, fatigue, or tension demands our attention.
This PCI College workshop introduces you to Somatic Movement, a gentle, body-centred approach to self-care that emphasises internal sensation over external performance. By learning to tune into the subtle signals of your nervous system, you will develop a powerful tool for releasing stored tension and restoring balance. This course empowers you to reclaim your physical presence, helping you transition from a state of reactive stress to one of embodied calm and resilience.
What do you need to bring?
For the best possible experience, attendees are recommended to bring their own yoga mat & pillow as well as a pen & notepad to take notes throughout the workshop.
Who is this course for?
This workshop is designed for anyone who wishes to reconnect with their body, reduce physical tension, and learn practical, sustainable ways to practice self-care.Â
- Helping Professionals: Counsellors, therapists, and healthcare staff seeking to manage vicarious trauma and physical exhaustion.Â
- Individuals Facing Chronic Stress:Â Anyone looking for accessible, non-strenuous ways to soothe the nervous system.Â
- Those Seeking Body Awareness:Â People interested in exploring how emotions are stored in the body and how to release them safely.Â
- Students & Lifelong Learners:Â Individuals curious about the intersection of neuroscience, movement, and psychological well-being.Â
What are the benefits of doing this course?
This training provides an “embodied toolkit,” shifting your self-care practice from a mental exercise to a felt, physical experience.Â
- Stress Release:Â Learn how to discharge physical manifestations of stress, such as tight shoulders, shallow breathing, and racing heart rates.Â
- Improved Body Awareness:Â Develop a deeper, more compassionate connection to your body’s needs, boundaries, and energy levels.Â
- Nervous System Regulation:Â Gain techniques to shift from a “fight, flight, or freeze” state back into a state of safety and equilibrium.Â
- Enhanced Resilience:Â Build a foundation of physical stability that supports your mental and emotional well-being during challenging times.Â
What will you learn?
The curriculum is highly experiential, focusing on slow, mindful exploration rather than exercise, making it accessible to all levels of fitness.Â
- The Principles of Somatics: Understanding the science of how we store experience in the body and the role of “proprioception.”Â
- Nervous System Soothing:Â Guided practices to down-regulate the nervous system and quiet the mind through physical ease.Â
- Releasing Tension Patterns: Identifying chronic holding patterns and learning gentle movements to soften and let go of held tension.Â
- Mind-Body Connection:Â Exercises to bridge the gap between cognitive understanding and physical sensation.Â
- Developing a Personal Routine:Â Practical guidance on how to integrate short, effective somatic “check-ins” into your daily schedule for lifelong self-care.Â
