- Clinical Assessment: Understanding risk factors, warning signs, and how to conduct a proper initial risk assessment.Â
- Crisis Intervention:Â Moving the young person out of crisis via a consistent, compassionate therapeutic relationship.Â
- Policies & Procedures:Â Navigating child protection, confidentiality, duty of care, and parental consent in crisis situations.Â
- Practical Strategies:Â Moving clients from self-harm to self-care; practical tools to support emotional regulation.Â
- Parental Support:Â Techniques for working with and empowering parents who feel overwhelmed by their child’s distress.Â
Course Content
- Suicide and self-harm amongst young people in Ireland today.
- Possible reasons why young people make attempts.
- Warning signs increased risk factors and how initial risk assessment is conducted.
- Correct Language to use and how to respond and not react. Where does confidentiality Start and end.
- Myths and facts of suicide and self-harm.
- Key goals of therapy and therapeutic strategies. Moving the client from self-harm to self-care.
- How to support parents and their fears and anxieties.
- Managing self-care in the work place.
Timetable
DURATION: 1 Day
TIME: From 9.30 am to 4.30 pm
This course has a duration of six hours, which is equivalent to six CPD points.
Eligibility
This is a CPD workshop specifically designed for Counsellors & Psychotherapist or other helping professionals with therapeutic experience and students currently in professional training. BSc Counselling & Psychotherapy students in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 of their studies are all invited to apply for this CPD workshop.
