2026 Liam McCarthy Scholarship Winner

PCI College is delighted to announce Daniel Newman as the recipient of the Liam McCarthy Scholarship for the 2026 academic year.

The scholarship is awarded as a tribute to Liam McCarthy, who co-founded PCI College with Josephine Murphy in 1991. At the heart of Liam’s vision was the belief that third-level education and personal development should be open to all mature students, including those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to earn a degree. Upholding this spirit of second-chance education, the scholarship provides full tuition fees for the BSc (Honours) Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Daniel demonstrated a deep commitment to these founding principles. His successful application included an essay reflecting on the theme of “Access to Mental Health Services in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” exploring the psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on vulnerable populations in Ireland and the essential role of trauma-informed care.

Congratulations, Daniel. We look forward to supporting your journey as you continue your studies with PCI College.
