Congratulations to Barbara Ines Fiori, Winner of the 2025 Martin Kitterick Award.
Barbara, a graduate of the BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy, has been recognised for producing the most relevant, rigorously researched and engaging thesis of outstanding academic quality.
The Martin Kitterick Award is presented annually to a final year PCI College student whose thesis demonstrates academic excellence and meaningful contribution to the field. The award is made in memory of Martin Kitterick, former Director of PCI College, who passed away in 2012.
Barbara’s winning thesis, “My Beautiful Accent: The Experience of Bilingual Trainee Counsellors Providing Therapy in English as a Second Language,” offers a thoughtful exploration of language, identity and therapeutic presence. Her work brings important insight into the lived experience of bilingual practitioners and the nuanced realities of working therapeutically across languages.
This year’s runner-up is Ciara Redmond.
Ciara’s thesis, “Irish Catholic Cultural Norms in Psychotherapy,” examines the enduring influence of cultural and religious narratives within the therapeutic space, offering critical reflection on how these norms shape both client experience and clinical practice.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Barbara and Ciara on their exceptional work and contribution to the profession.
